Robinhood Expands into Indonesia with Acquisition of Crypto and Brokerage Firms
Robinhood Markets has made its official entry into Indonesia's burgeoning financial market through the acquisition of Buana Capital, a local brokerage, and PT Pedagang Aset Kripto, a licensed crypto trader. The move positions the U.S.-based platform in one of Southeast Asia's most active crypto markets, with deals expected to close by the first half of 2026.
Indonesia's retail investor base is rapidly expanding, boasting 17 million crypto traders and 19 million capital market participants. Patrick Chan, Robinhood's Head of Asia, emphasized the country's potential as a key growth market for democratized finance. Pieter Tanuri, majority owner of both acquired firms, will serve as a strategic advisor.
The acquisition signals growing institutional interest in Indonesia's digital asset ecosystem, though financial terms remain undisclosed. Robinhood's expansion comes as Chainalysis data confirms the archipelago's position as a regional leader in cryptocurrency adoption.
